The Extreme Football League X League is an American women's tackle football league , with games played during the spring and summer months in arenas and stadiums. The league's administrative offices are located in Los Angeles. The concept of the league originated from an alternative Super Bowl halftime television special called the Lingerie Bowl , a pay-per-view event broadcast opposite the Super Bowl halftime show. In , league chairman Mitch Mortaza expanded the concept from a single annual exhibition game to a ten-team league, branded as the Lingerie Football League LFL. The league operated on a similar schedule to the National Football League NFL , playing in fall and winter and played most of its games indoors with similar rules to indoor football. Many of the teams were coached by former NFL players and coaches who were already well known in their respective cities.

A group of women who previously played in the 7-on-7 indoor football league spoke with "Inside Edition" and detailed injuries ranging from concussions and broken bones to scrapes from the playing surface.
